Chicago Dogs outfielder Narciso Crook and Kane County Cougars starter Alex Troop won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the opening week of the 2024 season ending on 5/12, the league announced Monday.

Crook took this award home due in large part to his three home-run performance on Sunday afternoon, powering the Dogs to an 8-5 win to complete the sweep against Gary-SouthShore.

In the first three games the former major leaguer went 5-for-9 at the plate with a double mixed in as well and six runs batted in. He also drew two walks and stole a base.

Crook has some familiarity with Chicago, making it to the majors with the Cubs back in 2022. He spent most of the 2023 season with Worcester, the Red Sox’ AAA affiliate.

Troop made quite the statement in his American Association debut on Friday night in Milwaukee.

The right-hander picked up the win by going five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out 10,

The Illinois native who grew up a Cougars fan spent the last six seasons in the Washington Nationals organization, reaching as high as AAA Rochester.

Pointstreak is the official statistician of the American Association.

MOORHEAD – The American Association of Professional Baseball, an MLB Partner League, and Baseball America have partnered ahead of the 2024 season to collaborate on various media assets.

The joint features will focus on American Association prospects and include social media content, regular season and jewel event live programming, including Baseball Champions League, and written articles.

The American Association enters 2024 on a high having secured the title at the first ever Baseball Champions League, a year-over-year increase in non-baseball revenue of 47%, record levels in league sponsorship, and a four year stretch of record annual increases in attendance. Baseball America comes to the partnership featuring a revamped website and business plan.

“As media has evolved, we have continued to find new ways to reach baseball fans. The American Association is doing the same thing with its unique league, so partnering with them on an innovative initiative is a no-brainer,” said Baseball America VP of Operations B.J. Schecter. “Together we can create and share great stories, reach fans in more places and continue to grow the game.”

“Joining forces with Baseball America to bring our brand of baseball and our best players to the masses in cutting edge media formats is innovative. I don’t believe any league or publisher before us has taken such measures,” said American Association Commissioner Joshua Schaub. “In the baseball world, Baseball America is venerated and we are proud to be in partnership with such a tremendous publication.”

The pairing of Baseball America and the American Association brings together two baseball organizations with an intertwined history. Miles Wolff was the founder and Commissioner of the American Association when it formed in 2006 through 2018, and was instrumental in the success of Baseball America as the owner and publisher of the magazine for much of the 1980s and 1990s.

The American Association ( and ) is a Major League Baseball Partner League that operates in nine states and one Canadian province. Formed in 2006, the league consists of twelve member clubs. Since 2006, 54 American Association players have gone on to play Major League Baseball. In 2023, over 65% of American Association players had played at Double-A or higher and 23 former American Association players played at the MLB level.

Baseball America () has evolved into a multimedia property across video, digital, social and print channels. Known in the industry as “the Bible of Baseball,” BA has been covering baseball with an emphasis on player development since 1981.

MOORHEAD, MN – In collaboration with the Kansas City Monarchs, the American Association announced today the host site for the 2024 All-Star Game – Legends Field in Kansas City.

The reigning Miles Wolff Champion Kansas City Monarchs have a historic year ahead as they aim to defend their title, compete in the Baseball Champions League, and will be hosting the All-Star festivities in July.

2024 will be the first time the Monarchs have hosted the American Association All-Star Game. It will be the first all-star game at Legends Field since the 2006 Northern League All-Star Game.

The annual American Association Hall of Fame Luncheon is scheduled for July 23, which coincides with game day. Prior to the luncheon, each All-Star will have the opportunity to visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum located at the historic 18th & Vine in Kansas City, Missouri.

“We’re excited for Kansas City to host the 2024 All-Star Festivities,” said American Association Commissioner, Joshua Schaub. ”Legends Field is a phenomenal stage to host the multi-day event in partnership with The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.”

Alongside the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby, Legends Field will also be the venue for an American Association tryout camp, as well as a top-notch baseball and softball clinic. More details about other events will be disclosed at a later date.

West All Stars will be under the management of Monarchs Skipper Joe Calfapietra, while Butch Hobson, who led the Chicago Dogs to the 2023 Wolff Cup Finals, will manage the East Division.

Forward-looking statements can be identified by the use of words such as “plans”, “expects” or “does not expect”, “is expected”, “estimates”, “intends”, “anticipates” or “does not anticipate”, or “believes”, or variations of such words and phrases or statements that certain actions, events or results “may”, “could”, “would”, “might” or “will” be taken, occur or be achieved. Such forward-looking statements involve known and unknown risks, uncertainties and other factors that may cause actual results, events or developments to be materially different from any future results, events or developments expressed or implied by such forward looking statements. Such risks and uncertainties include, among others, the Company’s limited operating history and lack of historical profits; risks related to the Company’s business and financial position; fluctuations in the market price of the Common Shares; that the Company may not be able to accurately predict its rate of growth and profitability; risks related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the Company, economic conditions, and global markets; reliance on management; the Company’s future requirements for additional financing, and the effect of capital market conditions and other factors on capital availability; competition, including from more established or better financed competitors; and the need to secure and maintain corporate alliances and partnerships, including with research and development institutions, clients and suppliers. These factors should be considered carefully, and readers are cautioned not to place undue reliance on such forward-looking statements. Although the Company has attempted to identify important risk factors that could cause actual actions, events or results to differ materially from those described in forward-looking statements, there may be other risk factors that cause actions, events or results to differ from those anticipated, estimated or intended. There can be no assurance that forward-looking statements will prove to be accurate, as actual results and future events could differ materially from those anticipated in forward-looking statements. The Company has no obligation to update any forward looking statement, even if new information becomes available as a result of future events, new information or for any other reason except as required by law.
